Galapagos Legend - marine reserve & underwater wonders of the Islands

Galapagos Marine Reserve

The Galapagos archipelago was declared a marine reserve in 1986 and is one of the largest reserves of its kind in the world. It´s alsorated as one of the top scuba diving sites by specialist magazines.

The astonishing forms of its underwater rocks and coral reefs serve as habitat for more than 400 species of multi-coloured fish, together with many species of whales, sharks, crustaceans and other wonders of the deep.

The archipelago`s location at a point where several Pacific currents meet and intermingle mean that its waters are particularly rich. Divers are constantly astounded by the sheer numbers of marine creatures they encounter.

These rich waters, and the Galapagos animals´ unique fearlessness make it a wonderful place to snorkel. Friendly hosts such as dolphins, sea-lions, manta rays, and penguins nearly always putting in cameo appearances.
